Eczema?

Eczema is a superficial inflammatory skin condition which may be marked by redness, itching, weeping or crusting. It can occur in children and adults and be aggravated when it is scratched.

Symptoms of Eczema may include one or more of the following:

• Red, inflamed skin
• Itchy skin
• Dry, scaly skin
• Small watery blisters on the skin, particulary on hands and feet
• Weepy skin if skin has cracked or been broken by scratching/itching
• Usually affecting the backs of the knees, front of elbows, chest, face and neck

Causes of Eczema

A genetic or inherited tendency may be the reason why some people develop eczema and dry, inflamed skin conditions.

Triggers for flare ups include one or more of the following:

• Some soaps, shampoos and personal care products
(this may vary by users)
• Pollen or house dust mites
• Bacterial or viral infections
• Food allergies
• Dry skin
• Stress
